My little guy continues to amaze me. He is so smart. I swear I wasn’t so smart at his age. I’m sure, scratch that, I know, everyone says that about their baby.

Our struggle with him right now is getting him to listen. He wants to do his own thing and gets so carried away with playing, he doesn’t always stop to listen – or so we think. My son may act like he doesn’t hear us when we ask him to do something but he is certainly listening to everything we say. If I needed proof he is more than happy to show me how well he listens to everything anybody says to him.

Exhibit A: His father takes him to get a hair cut and when he comes home I always tell him I like his hair cut. His teachers and friends at school acknowledge his new look too. I’m guessing he’s pretty used to hearing “I like your haircut.” So, I was getting him cleaned up one morning so that he could get dressed. I still had on my pajamas. They happened to be sleeveless. I hadn’t shaved my underarms for a couple of days. I wasn’t at bush woman status but you could tell it was growing back. My baby took one look at my underarms and said, “I like you haircut.” I could not help but crack up!

Exhibit B: My little guy is kinda obsessed with my hair. He loves to touch my hair. He will watch TV with one hand holding on to my hair. It has gotten pretty long since I was pregnant with his baby sister and I think it only makes him like it more. So, he was playing in my hair the other day and told me that I have a lot of hair. Then he decided, “Mommy, you have too much hair. You have to share.” Again, I cracked up. Obviously, he’s paying attention when his teachers encourage him to share.

Exhibit C: Little man was in his play area playing with is new cars he got for his birthday. He stopped and turned around and said “Mommy, I’m so proud of you.” I said, “Really, why??” He said, “You got me these cars and I’m so proud of you. We are SO proud of you Mommy.” His Dad and I exchanged glances and laughed. Then, the little mister said,”Lightning McQueen says thank you Mommy.” Of course I had to tell Lightning McQueen “you’re welcome”. We are always telling him how proud we are of him and that we are SO proud of him. Clearly, he’s noticed. Ha!

Somebody is definitely using their listening ears even when it doesn’t seem like it.

  1. Yup! He sure has his listening ears on. Like every kid, it’s only for selective hearing. 😉 his encouragement for you to share your hair had me crack up.

  2. Exactly. He hears you and he can sometimes make a conscious decision to simply tune you out LOL It’ll get better with the listening, even the heeding what you say but I offer no guarantees for it happening regularly anytime soon. (Nobody can tell me I have a nice underarm haircut because WHOOOOOO LAWD.)
