My hair and I have a love/love relationship. Even on the worst days, I feel like I understand it and can make it look somewhat put together. That could have something to do with the fact that both of my parents are barbers. Making hair work is probably in my genes?
My hair has changed over the years and I’m always learning something new that I can do with it. Since I started wearing my natural curls some years ago, I’ve been pretty committed to keeping heat out of it or at least to a minimum. I pay more attention to what I put in it as well as what I do to it. As a result, I’m a bit of a product hoarder! There’s always something new with huge promises of amazing results. I’ve found some things that I love and some things I will never try again.

Before you get started, you take a hair quiz. In it, you tell them what your hair is like, how you usually style it, what you need (more definition, less frizz). You can also tell them the fragrance that you’d like your shampoo and conditioner to have. As if that wasn’t enough, you can tell them how strong or faint you’d like that fragrance to be. Seriously, they’ve thought of everything. The other thing I love is that their product is free of all the stuff you don’t want. There are no parabens, preservatives, sulfates and it’s a cruelty-free company. I love this because I want to feel good about what I’m putting in my hair. I love that with Formulate you get to create hair care as unique as your hair. That makes for a good wash day and good hair days!
I’ve had great results with it after using it for a few months. My hair is seriously clean. I love that there’s no residue or product build up. My hair seems to have gotten a bit thicker too. Another big concern of mine was keeping my curls. I included that in my hair quiz. My curls are as defined and full as ever.

I love the idea of custom beauty products. My hair is quite porous. It soaks up everything. I’d need a product to address that!
