At this point, I think we all know that staying home is the way to go while we try to flatten the curve in this coronavirus pandemic. So far, my family has been in the house for about two weeks. My kids were initially supposed to be out of school until April 6. We just got a note this week that it’s been extended to May 1st. Our governor is saying the kids are likely done for the school year.

We're all in this temporary new normal. I'm trying to find ways to cope with the stress and anxiety that comes with it.

Our routines have definitely changed as I’m sure yours has too. My husband is working from home. I’m doing less of my normal day to day ( read: none) since I’m homeschooling the kids. Aside from the writing I’m not quite getting too, I’m trying to hold on to some sort of normalcy. It’s been important for my kids as they have Zoom classes with their teachers and classmates. It’s important for me too as well try to navigate this new “normal”. Even more so because this new “normal” comes with a ton of stress.

Recipe to Release Stress

One thing I’ve been trying to stick with is my exercise regimen and my reading. Just last month I told you I was doing monthly challenges as far as my fitness is concerned. Last month is was weight training with Peloton. This month, I am doing the 21 day challenge with Brittne Babe. She does a new challenge often. I purchased volume 8 some time ago. I started it before and ended up doing more spinning classes instead. This month, I re-committed myself. Her workouts are challenging for sure! She is no joke and does the moves like it’s nothing. Each workout is about 30 minutes more or less – that doesn’t include the warm up and stretch.

I’ll be wrapping that up soon and looking for a new challenge. I’ve been wanting to try a barre class and hear there are some good ones on YouTube. I guess I’ll have to get my YouTube fix while we’re all quarantined. There are lots of free trial opportunities being offered from companies like Nike and Peloton. Check them out.

The thing is, the exercise isn’t even about fitness at this point. It’s a stress and anxiety reliever. I’m stressed about keeping my parents safe, my kids, my husband and myself. I’m stressed because my timeline is filled with stories of people being sick and people dying. Some of which are my age, from my high school, in my family.

Another way to escape this dark reality we are living is reading books. I’m currently reading, I Can’t Date Jesus. I had a twitter exchange with the author and told him I’d check it out.

What are you doing to keep stress and anxiety at bay? I’d love to know.
