Summer time fun is officially over around here. And man, was it a Summer. We celebrated my daughter’s 6th birthday with a fun party and our 11th wedding anniversary. In both cases, I’m blown away at how quickly time flies! In between that, we did some house hunting and moved into a new place. Moving sucks! We have a ton of stuff we’re giving away. You want some? I’m starting to think minimalism is totally the way to go. On the up side, we got a new office space out of the deal so – yay!

The kids have gone back to school and it feels like we've hit the refresh button. Things have changed this year and I'm feeling like I'm reclaiming my time!I’ve been unpacking, organizing and decorating my butt off. The room I’m most excited to finish is the office. It’s the one room in the house that’s pretty much just mine. I think I should put a sign on the door that says “reclaiming my time”! Bwhahahaa! Of course my kids make their way in and leave toys random toys – it’s all good though. I’ll have to do a before and after post once I really dig in there. You don’t want to see what it looks like now, trust me. Before we could settle into the house good we were off! Seriously. Right after we moved, we went on vacation! We left all the unpacked boxes and hopped on a plane. Slackers! The time away was so needed though.

We all needed a break.

The kids were doing camps and classes off and on during the Summer and my husband has been working non-stop and needed a breather. I was a crazy woman organizing the kids’s schedules and running them around while also organizing the move. I stopped writing in this space and went into a hole until I could check some life stuff off my list. Let me tell you, Cabo was just what we needed to refresh and hit the reset button.

When we got back it was time for the kids to start school. Can you say whirlwind summer? I don’t recommend the quick turnaround. Unless, of course, you wanna be crazy – Mmmk? There are lots of changes for us this year. The kids school has moved to a new building. It’s a little further away so we are kind of bummed about not walking to school this year. I should stress the words kind of. The kids aren’t that sad about hopping in the car in the morning. Ha! The other big change is the kids finally have the same schedule! What the what!? Finally!!!!!

Reclaiming my time

For the nearly five years that I’ve been home with them, they have had very different schedules. It seemed like I was spending all of my time in the car. There would only be an hour or two throughout the day that I wasn’t doing something related to the kids. So this year, is HUGE. They are in school about six hours and I don’t know how to feel. I have so many things I have been wanting to do and now I actually have time to see them through. For the last few years, I have been doing things in bits and pieces and now I feel like I can dive in a bit more and seriously reclaim my time.

I don’t know about you but, when the kids go back to school, it always feels like a new beginning. Sure, it’s a new beginning for them. They start a new grade, sometimes at a new school. We do all the school supply shopping and get new backpacks and lunch boxes. Of course, they’re excited to see their friends and make new ones. For me, back to school is a reset button for me too. I get excited about the things they’re going to learn and experience. I also feel like I should be starting something new or hitting the refresh button for my own stuff. That excites me. It’s almost the same feeling as getting reading for a brand new year – just a few months early.

I’m looking forward to this new year for all of us. I see it being one of growth and learning filled with amazing experiences and opportunities. As for me, when the kids are home from school I think they’ll find a more peaceful mama. Having some real time for my own endeavors is a blessing. I plan to make the most of it. The office space in the new place will definitely play a part in creating more peace for myself.

How is back to school going for you? What’s helping you to reclaim a bit more peace these days?

  1. I wish I was reclaiming my time. I’m back to work now that school is back in. Sadly, my job doesn’t allow me to take any time off.

  2. I love the idea of putting a Reclaiming My Time sign up on your office door! lol We moved this summer too to a new city so we have new city, new jobs new schools and I am just looking forward to getting into a routine that we didn’t have much of this summer.

  3. It’s hard to slow down and take time for yourself. I hope you can enjoy this season and rediscovering yourself!
