You know when inspiration strikes for me? I’ll give you two of the most inconvenient moments of inspiration that get me. Either in the bed as I’m drifting off to sleep or in the shower. It’s like as soon as I lie down my body goes into super creative mode and gives me the best words and ideas for something I’m working on or something completely new that I should be working on. The other super creative spot is the shower. Inspiration strikes when I’m covered in soap with nothing to write on.

If the ideas feel like something I don’t want to forget or mess up I have to do something about them. In these cases, that means getting my butt out of the bed and jotting down whatever is running around my brain or saving it in the notes of my phone. If I’m in the shower, I tend to just repeat whatever the idea is in my head until I’m out of the shower and then write it down.

Thinking of when I get inspired also has me thinking of what inspires me most.

My Kids

At the top of the inspiration ticket are my kids. They are boundless with ideas and energy. Just talking to them leaves me in awe on a regular basis because I’m sure I wasn’t nearly as smart as they are when I was little. They inspire me to think bigger and aim higher. Just like they do.

My Past

When I think about how far I’ve come, I can’t help but be inspired. I remember working in a newsroom for a newspaper in a small city. I couldn’t have imagined then that I’d move all the way to Los Angeles and work for a whole network. Then to go from there to creating my own space and opportunities for myself.

My Future

Even though the things look… interesting right now, I’m still inspired by what I see in my future. It’s one of the things that’s helping me move through the pandemic with some level of positivity. I envision what life will look like on the other side of all of this. I think of all the things I’m putting in motion to accomplish for myself and having that to look forward to inspires me to keep creating and keep looking forward.
