Mama’s Losin’ It

For the last few weeks I haven’t been a part of Mama Kat’s Writing Workshop. What was I thinking?!? Well, now I’m back at it and taking a stab of one of this weeks prompts:

What do the contents of your handbag/purse “say” about you?

If you took a peek in my purse you might be a little confused. You see, I have the purse of a multi-tasker. Everything is kind of jumbled up in there. It used to be much more organized before you know who. 🙂 I think I need one of those organizer things. There’s usually too many things in there but, they always have a purpose… kinda. You’d find my blackberry, lip balm, a little make up, business cards, crayons, snacks, a notebook and my wallet. Random tissue, lotion and ear buds make the cut as well.

The Berry – My blackberry pretty much controls my life. It’s so sad, but totally true. If it’s not on the berry calendar, I can just about guarantee you it’s not getting done. All the contact information I need is in that little piece of magic. Everything I need to do at work and at home is there. Every appointment, every task list – it’s there. What the heck did I do before my beloved berry.

The Balm – My lip balm is also a life saver. I absolutely can. not. function. with dry lips. So the lip balm is a necessity.

The Make Up–  If for any reason I need to be “cute” I have a wee bit of make up on hand. I am not a big make up girl. I prefer my lip balm at all times and that’s about it. Every now and then my life calls for a little more effort than that. So, I keep the makeup bag as my effort to be prepared.

The Cards – My business cards are always on hand. I keep them there just in case. In case I meet someone that I might need to network with later, I’m ready. I have to be prepared, right?

The Colors – Crayons have been stock piling in my purse for a while now. Every time we go to a restaurant I pull them out so the little man can entertain himself for a bit before dinner. It always helps to have extra. You just never know when he’s going to throw them three tables away followed by a meltdown.

The Snack-age – I keep animal crackers, cranberries, trail mix and snack bars within reach. The snacks could be for me, the baby or anyone I encounter who might be hungry. It’s my own little feed the world initiative.

The Notebook – Not the (bring on the waterworks) movie! An actual notebook.  I have so many random ideas all day for this here blog that I keep a notebook close to jot them all down. At the end of the day I look at it and decide that maybe what I wrote is stupid and others are pure brilliance. HA!.

The Wallet – Well, yeah, duh. 🙂

Your turn! What does your bag say about you?

  1. Honestly, I ADORE that you have your blackberry and a notebook… so often you have your paper people (with a non-smart phone) or your techy people (latest gadgets and no archaic paper). I’m a smart phone and paper person (though i do keep my calendar in a PAPER organizer, I live by my droid for everything else) and everyone says I’m a rare bread…

  2. Stopping by from Mama Kat’s. I also love that you have a notepad and your Blackberry. I live off of my smart phone too… but, for some reason, I MUST handwrite my grocery lists.

  3. A notebook! Now why didn’t I think of that! I go through tons of pieces of paper every week, and they just pile up in my bag. I constantly write down things to do and yes even blog posts.

  4. I am still in diaper bag mode, but I am transitioning back to purses (I still use them when I am sans child, but that is rare). I always have snacks, diapers, hand sanitizer & wipes, some sort of beverage, gum, lip gloss, phone, little notebook, and quarters for parking meters!

    • quarters for parking meters – good one! i NEVER have enough change and just happen to luck up on one with time left over. 🙂

  5. The main thing I have to keep in my purse is lotion for when my skin gets dry. Rarely do I have trail mix in my purse but that is a good idea.:) I am old school so I keep all my appointments in a pocket planner in my purse.

  6. Your purse must be huge! Maybe that’s what I need… I have a tiny purse and it’s crammed full of receipts and cards (library, business, credit).
Also like the notebook idea. Funny how our whole lives are on our gadgets but sometimes only the old-school tool will do the trick.

  7. I smiled when I read your paragraph about your blackberry. I, too, put reminders in the calendar for everything I’m supposed to do. And I am so addicted to that thing: I can understand why it’s referred to as “crackberry”.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment!

  8. I was a Berry addict too (and now a total iPhone convert.) I used to carry a notebook everywhere but never used it since I use the phone apps for everything. You have me thinking I want to go old-school again for a while and see how it feels to actually write things down on paper. Loved the post and the straightforward approach. Thanks for sharing!

    • i thought about the iphone but i can’t get used to the touch screen. even on my berry i never use that option. must have clumsy fingers!
