This week I’m linking up with Mama Kat for her Writer’s Workshop. The prompt I chose this week is: What did you want your name to be?

Growing up, I never had really given my name much thought. I’ve always been cool with my name and never heard another that I thought would work better for me. Being Camesha has worked for me so far and I don’t run into many other people with my name. So, it’s unique enough to suit me.

What I had given a lot of thought to was naming my children. As a little girl, I probably devoted way too much time to naming my children. Apparently, I only saw myself having a girl. I say that because the only name I can remember is the name I had for a little girl. I stuck with this name for along time and finally gave it up. The name was Tere Annastasia (sounds like Ta-ray Anna stays ya). Why? I don’t know. Well, wait, that’s a lie. The reason behind the first name is because I thought any name with an accent was cool. So I threw one over the last “e”. Not sure what sold me on Annastasia. I do know what got me off the Annastasia band wagon though. So many people told me the name made them think of anesthesia. Yeah, not the reaction I wanted to my future child’s name. So rest assured the little girl that I’m carrying now will not be named Tere Annastasia. Feel free to take that one and use it as you will.

After saying that, I don’t know what her name will be. Still working on that. I just hope it’s something she likes. If not, I’ll tell her what the alternative was. HA!

What about you? Have you ever wanted a different name?

  1. I think your name is very nice! Like you, I haven’t come across too many people with my name (Kalendy). The only drawback is getting people to pronounce it correctly–which is why I use Kalley.

  2. Naming the baby is a huge deal, isn’t it? Not all names seem equally great for a baby and an old lady for instance! Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy. I bet when you see her face one of those names floating through your head will seem just right and you will know.

  3. Naming babies is one of my favorite things to do and luckily mine have all been happy with theirs. It’s fun to find the meaning in the name and then see if the child grows into it as well. I felt the need to change my own name quite a few times along the path of life but, I still had fun with that too! You have a unique name and it seems to suit you. I’ve enjoyed visiting your blog. Blessings, Tia

  4. In middle school I wanted a different name. At that time Jennifer’s, Jessica’s, and Ashley’s were really popular and my name was not so much. Now I like my name, it’s a known name but not many people have it.

  5. When I was younger, I hated my name. I thought it was weird and ugly. It was a foreign name with extra letters and sounds plus a hyphen. No one could pronounce it…ever. I wanted my name to be just plain MARY. I did not embrace the uniqueness and the meaning. I have only started to appreciate my name now.

I can’t wait to find out what you will name baby girl!

  6. Growing up I was so embarrassed about my name. I wanted to change it so bad. For a few months when I was 12 I told everyone my name was Casey. I would answer to it and everything. My grandmother was not pleased so I had to let Casey die:)

  8. Do I have a story for you! My name is suppose to be Cari Ann, but a birth certificate fluke, left me Cari, and I’m TOTALLY fine with that.

My Dad, bless his heart, actually wanted to name me Dixie! What the? Thanks to Jesus and my Gramma, that someone stopped him.

  9. oh my gosh i HATED my name when i was younger.. I wanted a more common name like ANNy or Emily. Now I am so grateful for my name. Yours is also very beautiful!

  10. I love it! Names with an accent really were so appealing when we were little. I always thought I’d name my daughter Mercedes. Realistically, I don’t think I’m hip enough to have a Mercedes daughter 🙂

  11. When I was younger I wanted to change my name as well, I wanted it to be Lucy (after the show I love Lucy). No one could ever pronounce my name and came up with every way but the right way to say it. Of course as I got older I grew to love my name and wouldn’t change it for the world.

  12. I constantly begged for a different name growing up. My Mom literally picked my name out of thin air after being nameless for a week in the hospital. She had my name set in stone before I was born, and then happened upon a woman who’s ugliest baby in the world had the same name as the one she’d picked. My name does not suit me, but I’ve come to accept it at some point.
