And just like that it was back to the grind…

Self care does not have to be hard. Here are 5 EASY ways to #treatyoself and keep the self care vibes going and they will not cost you a thing.
I had a lovely Mother’s Day. My family let me sleep in. My husband made breakfast and the kids delivered it to me in bed with flowers and cards. They were so pleased with themselves! The look on their faces was the best treat. I stayed in bed and caught a documentary I’d wanted to see. My son hung out with me in bed for a bit and then put on a show for me. The kid juggled, did some acrobatics and then created a bunch of art for me. He’s one talented seven year old!

This year, my one request was for some quiet time and they made sure I had it. Man, it was good! The thing is, I’m not alone! All over my Facebook timeline there were threads about what moms really wanted for Mother’s Day. A HUGE amount of mamas just wanted some alone time. There was talk of a day or two at a hotel near the beach. Others just wanted to be in their room, alone with food, Netflix and wine. I get it. Everyone needs a breather now and then. I was refreshed once I made my way out of the bed.
My daughter gave me lots of snuggles (she’s the queen of snuggles). Once we made our way out to a late lunch, the feel good vibes were strong!

In true Southern California style we ordered cupcakes to go from one of our favorite bakeries and enjoyed dessert on the beach! Yasss! It’s the little things that make me happy. While we all love the extra attention we get on Mother’s Day, there’s no reason you can’t keep the love going. I’m talking about treat yo self – the freebie version!

I said I love the little things and I really do. I’m kinda sappy that way. You don’t have to spend a bunch of money to make me happy. Mother’s Day served as another reminder of how important self care is and how it doesn’t have to be some big thing. I was perfectly content to play around on my computer, watch a documentary, and just relax. All of those things fed me in some way. That’s exactly what I look for in self care. Aside from these simple things, here are some #treatyoself things you can do, for free!
Dance party in your car or living room – It really feels good to just let go! On the way to pick my kids up from school, it’s not out of the ordinary for me to have a quick dance party in my car. All I need is some Bruno Mars and I’m good. My kids and I crank up Disney tunes or Michael Jackson songs and have a party in our living room.
Go for a walk – It took me having kids to really appreciate nature. I just to go on walks with my kids when they were really small and I was always amazed at all the things they’d notice that I’d just bypass. They notice all the little things. It’s all new to them and I learned to see things with fresh eyes. Now going for a walk is one of my favorite things to do to relax, think or to just zone out for a bit and focus on the small things.
Read – I have been on a reading frenzy! I’m on my fifth book since April. I shared a list of books I’m working on in 2017 and I’ve been tearing through them. I’ll have to update the list later with other books that I’ve been adding to my bookshelf.
Write – It’s the word nerd in me that can’t get away from the written word. What can I say? I’ve spent my career as a writer on every platform possible. It’s more than something I do just for work, I do it because I love it and it feeds a part of me.
Color – have you gotten into the adult coloring book craze? There are all of these cool coloring books out creating for adults. I got one recently in my FabFitFun box. I’ll be sitting down to let my inner child free soon!
How was your Mother’s Day? What do you do to make self care easy?
