Before I had my son, I had all these grand ideas of the things I was going to do to be the perfect mommy. I was going to keep a mommy journal of all of the changes that come with being his mother. I was going to keep up with his baby book and have it updated with all of his milestones. I am not happy to say that I haven’t quite kept up with those goals.

My solution was to do something that makes it easier for me to do. I decided to set up an email address for him. It’s something that he can later take over. It makes it easy for me to shoot him a note whenever. I have shared the email address with our family so that others can send him their love as well. I’m proud to say, I have actually been keeping up with this!

On the way to go and see Elmo, I sent him an email about that day. I explained that he loved Elmo and how excited he would be once we saw his fuzzy, red pal. Then I snapped a picture on my phone and attached it to the email so he could check it out later.

Most recently, I sent him an email of the first time he told me that he loved me unprompted. He told his dad months before and I was waiting for my turn. He delivered the goods on my birthday! How perfect. I hope that one day he really enjoys reading all of those emails and knowing how much his family loves him and enjoy watching him grow.

How do/did you keep up with your child’s milestones? Did the baby book work out for you?

  1. I have a journal I am writing my thoughts and messages to my baby. And I hope to keep it up. I might not update everyday but I will try my best to write down the important message I want baby to read when it time.

Once baby is here I would like to keep up with photos and video recording too :).

  2. I had a book and I did good when the kids were hand babies but now not so much. My friend has to keep on me to make sure I take pictures because I always forget to capture the basic milestones. I need to do better I think blogging helps captures some moments.

  3. I think I’m going to start doing that after her first birthday. I use the blog as my main source of documenting memories, but I like the intimacy of using an email account. That Google commercial where the dad emails his daughter from the moment she was born gets me every time!

  4. I have three children and three blank baby books I received as gifts. I do take pictures, though. It will up to them to organize them after I’m gone, I guess. I can always save those baby books for when they have kids. Might make a cool re-gift.

  5. I’ve heard of people who do the email address & I love it, but I’ve never started it.

I’m going to do that now though! You inspired me!

I did keep a pregnancy journal the last pregnancy where I wrote every day just about what was going on with my day & how pregnancy was going etc etc.

It’s fun to look back at & I hope my son likes it too.

  6. I started off good with updating her book, but then like you I went to the email option being that I am always on the computer. I think I am doing good with keeping up with her milestones. Unlike my son. I did horrible. I find myself now going back trying to do his book. I don’t want him to say his sister had a book and he didn’t.

  7. I have 3 baby books and they are all empty! I have pictures of my first born when she was a baby and I do not where they are. I never printed pics of my second child. I am trying to get things done with my last one as far a printing pics and writing.

    I love your idea!
