My husband had been talking to one of his friends about weekend plans. Those plans included fishing. I hadn’t been fishing since I was a little girl. My dad took me once and I just remember being bored with the waiting of it all. So, even though my memories didn’t  make me feel warm and fuzzy about going, I was up for it. I wanted to see how I’d do being a grown up and all. Plus, this time I’d be with my own kids and our friends and their kids. Since we always have fun with them, I was down!

irvine lakeWe headed out Saturday to Irvine Lake to see if we could catch some dinner! My husband packed our car with our cooler filled with food, some chairs and a blanket. He packed some toys for the kids and I got the bubble machine and extra clothes and pj’s for the kids. We were ready for some fun at the lake!june dump 075

Our friends met us there and got the fishing going before we arrived. We hung out and chased the kids around making sure no one took a dip in the water. They threw rocks in the water and found sticks to dig stuff out of the edge of the water.

june dump 077It was cool to see the fish jumping out of the water. It was like they were teasing us though. They weren’t making their way on to our lines dangling in the water. Sneaky suckas!

june dump 076There were signs up warning us about mountain lions and rattle snakes. Our friends told us they heard some rattlers before we showed up. Crazy! We also so some bunnies and frogs just doing their thing. It was clear, we were in their territory. The first side of the lake where we started out had a waterfall. Very pretty. Too bad, I was too busy chasing kids to take a picture. Womp!

june dump 079We moved to another side of the lake and the view from this side was gorgeous. And I managed to get a picture of the peaceful view.

june dump 078Can’t be mad at that. With a view like this, I think I might be down to go fishing again.

By the way, we didn’t catch any fish. We got a bite or two but they got away. Instead we bought a boat load of fish the next day and had a feast! Ha!

How was your weekend? Have you ever been fishing?

  1. When I was a little girl, my Papa used to take me fishing, but that is the extent of my experience. At the pond we used to go to, they only had catfish and he would catch them & then throw them back. I think there were only 5 or 6 fish in the pond, so I am pretty sure we just kept catching the same one over and over again! LOL.

  7. Sounds like a great time to me. I use to fish all the time when I was young. Back then, we fished for our supper, LOL. I have not been fishing in many many years.

  8. Fishing was one of my favorite things to do as a kid. We didn’t have to watch out for mountain lions, but we did have to keep our out for snakes and gators though.
