I am sick. I have the cooties. It sucks.  This stoopid, yes stoopid cold virus is going around my family and it finally took me down. I feel like crud. It really kicks in how good it is to feel well when I’m sick. I’m so looking forward to this cold moving it’s way on out of my house. I have things to do and babies to take care of and this cold is getting ALL up in the way. Being at home with the babies while feeling like ish on a stick ain’t easy. Here’s what’s working for me… kinda

1- Focus

There are some things that just have to be done. Feeding the family is one of them. When I pick my son up from school, I don’t sit down! No, sitting down is the kiss of death. If my backside makes contact with a seat, it’s a done deal. All this tired will come down on me and it will be every baby for themselves. That ain’t right. So, I don’t sit. Instead, I cook. Dinner is done early just because it’s something I need to get out of the way while I have an ounce of energy to do it. I also have the closest Chinese food restaurant on speed dial for delivery. Just in case…

2- Read

Being sick, I don’t have a whole lot any energy to do much playing and running around. My kids are SO used to activity because we are always on the move. My babies are also book worms. That’s where I win! I plant myself in a corner in their play area and pull out a stack of books. We sit there and read! My daughter works on her vocabulary by repeating the words I read and my son works on his definitions because he asks me what every word means. They’re learning, I’m winning!

3 – Dance Party

My kids will take any opportunity to dance! I have a stack of CD’s of kids music. As soon as I put one on, it’s an instant dance party in my living room. They get to shake their sillies out and I get to watch. Works for me.

4- Walk it out

My daughter made it very clear to me that she needed to go outside. She pointed to the window and said “Outside. Walk.” So we went for a walk. Any time spent outside with her turns into a nature walk and adventure. It’s fun to watch her explore and the fresh air probably did my sick butt some good.

There it is… that’s how I’m getting through this funky cold. I’m sure I’ll have to fake some energy soon. Until then…

  1. I am so sorry to hear! We had it move through our family and it was a doozy. I didn’t get it, somehow, but I was the only one to get a ten day cold back in January so I guess I paid my dues.
Fresh air is nice! It’s still very cold in the northeast so it’s not an option for us…yet.
    Enjoy it for us!

  2. I hope you get to feeling better! I despite being sick, even just having the sniffles. I think as a mom it’s twice as hard, because we still have our little ones to run after all day long. Leaves little time to nurse your own self back to good health. Some how we do it though! 🙂

  3. I love your rules! I do the same when sick. I read, play games that don’t require me to actively run around, I do what I can and pray to get better soon. I hope you feel better soon!

  4. Isn’t always humbling for children to remind us that life goes on even when we are sick. Hope you feel better soon! We love dance parties at our house too!!

  5. Excellent blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers?

I’m hoping to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost
on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress
or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m totally overwhelmed ..

    Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!
