On May 11th, I was put on partial bed rest. My world came to a screeching halt in an instant. To go from my usual routine to just about being dormant was a real eye opener. I was still working from home and so thought if this was “bed rest”, perhaps I could get through it.

On May 25th, I was told no more partial bed rest but instead it was time to have a seat and make every effort to keep my daughter from being born prematurely. Her health and well being is of course, something I don’t take lightly. I followed every single rule given to me.

On June 15th, my body was moving right along and preparing for delivery. My doctor said, the baby could come any day now. I was one day short of 35 weeks.

On June 19th, my mom dropped everything and flew here to L.A. to be here to help me with getting through bed rest and also prepared to meet her grand daughter – early. My mom was here for a couple of weeks. She gave my husband some much needed relief from doing every thing on his own while I lay in bed praying to make it another week closer to full term. I guess my daughter changed her mind about getting here so quickly because aside from one false alarm trip to the hospital… there was nothing. She was sticking in there.

On July 5th, my mom went back home to Michigan. At 10:30 at night, her flight took off. She’d helped us out a ton but still hadn’t had a chance to meet her grand daughter. I kept saying, “I bet she’ll come the minute you leave.”

On July 6th, at 7:30 in the morning… those words came true as I went into labor. Who knew it would actually happen that way? My darling little girl made her debut into this world. I had been pregnant one day shy of 38 weeks. She’s a full term baby!!! Praise God!

She tipped the scales at 6 lbs and 11 oz. She immediately won the heart of her big brother and of course, her mommy and daddy. I can’t believe I’m a mom of two! We are settling in and trying to find our new normal.

On July 14th, my husband and I will celebrate five years of marriage. We’ll be at home, cozy and full of love with our little family that’s just grown by one. Sounds like a great anniversary date to me.

  2. I loved the time line. I bet your mother was like, “OMG! OMG!!!” So when is she coming back now?
I am very happy for you! My son’s bday is 7/4 so it’s fun having a summer baby! I am the mother of two also (a boy first, girl second). I love my son, but I have so much dress up fun with my baby girl! Well she is 4 now! Congrats!!

  3. Yay! Congrats on a safe and healthy delivery! She is such a beauty. Sorry your mom missed it. Something similar happened when I delivered JJ. I was trying to hang in there until my mom could make it to the hospital but he other plans.

She arrived ten minutes after I pushed him out. Babies have a mind of their own.
