Our house is full of kids toys and clothes. Some of them are in use, some are not. I have been in the process of bagging things up and getting them ready to be given away or sold. At first, my son had a problem with this. He was not amused by me taking his toys away. Every toy I laid my hand to, he’d swear it was his favorite toy and that he loved it so much. I gave him some time and moved on to other things. Then, it was back to the negotiation for the toys. I talked to him about letting go of things. I talked to him about kids who would love to have the toys that he no longer even plays with. We talked about some kids who don’t have any toys. This was unbelievable to him! Then, I let it rest again.

A couple of days later, I resumed my pack it up mission. He jumped in. This time, he wanted to help me. He handed me toys and told me that I could give it away because he’s a big boy and doesn’t really play with it. Or he’d say, that I could give it away because it’s not his favorite toy. We made a deal. He’d tell me his favorite toys and I’d leave those alone. The others were fair game. Our deal made it so much easier to fly through his toy box and clear space. I think he’s beginning to understand that giving doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

  10. Love this! I’ve never heard of Schoola but I love the idea of second hand clothes– I don’t even rememeber the last time I paid full price for anything! I’ll absolutely be clicking, even if it’s just to help your school!
