I’m going to be honest here and say out loud what I have been thinking for a while. I am jealous of my babies. I’m jealous because they have each other.

Being an only child has it’s privileges. Don’t get me wrong. All the attention was on me. That’s good because I got all the love and attention I could ever need. Bad because, if I did something wrong – I got all the love and attention I could ever need. LOL! Never the less, I am super jealous of my kids. I am now getting a chance to see first hand what it’s like to have a sibling. It’s awesome!

photo(15)I love catching them playing. (This was in a hotel room.) I love the way my daughter looks at her brother. She thinks he is a rock star! Everything he does cracks her up. When we’re taking professional pictures, she stares at the photographer with a stink eye. We have to get her brother to talk to her to make her laugh so that we get a good picture. He wants nothing more than to protect her. He wants to feed her, bring her toys, be her super hero. When she cries, he runs to her screaming, “never fear, big brother is here.” Yes, there is still some jealousy but there is so much love!

He’s trying to teach her how to walk. She’s about to catch on all on her own. I’m so looking forward to watching the bond they have grow. It’s amazing to watch these two little people, forever connected, grow together. As mushy as it is, it truly fills my heart with joy to have a front row seat while watching their story unfold.

Am I the only one that’s straight up sappy about this kind of stuff? It’s because I was raised solo, right?

  1. No, I pretty much live in the sap daily. When I watch them hug, or console each other, I am incredibly jealous but even more so touched and happy I made the decision to have more than one. Being an only child was great in some aspects, but now I am seeing what I missed. Its a beautiful sight though.

  2. This is so adorable! There’s just something so special about watching siblings grow together and blossom. I always think that Aiden is missing out on that aspect of childhood because I know what it’s like to have a sibling and to be able to grow together. Maybe I’ll have another one… one day when I’m married.

  4. OMG!! Just the other night I almost cried when I realized the baby had snuck in her brother’s bed and they were snuggled up sleep together. I so wish I had a sibling. Glad I am able to have given them one another. I can see their bond growing daily and it is amazing

  5. Everything you wrote is do very true! I am the middle child of 3 and I loved having my family around to play. We were never lonely, and always had each other. I’m am so glad to give my daughter a chance to have a younger sibling. Everyday she says, “I love my brother. “

  6. Awww they do love their older sibling kind glad I had them close together they are the perfect mix for me but I won’t be having anymore lol

  7. NO! It really is a sweet thing to see and experience. I was spoiled in having two older brothers who always wanted to protect me and didn’t spaz out when I wanted to do EVERYTHING they did (until they got too cool and wanted girlfriends lol). I kinda feel bad for my Chunks being an only child 🙁

  8. I love the bond that my kids have. It reminds me of the bond that I have with my siblings. After I had Moo, I knew that I didn’t want her to be an only child. I wanted her to have the experience of having a playmate and someone else she could confide in besides me and her father.

I love their love for each other. It just makes my heart swell!

  9. Yeah I understand I have 3 siblings and we are a gang of 4. We play, fight and do all kinds of stuff together and yeah it is in deed a gift to have siblings. I kinda feel sorry for you but look on the bright side you have two wonderful kinds to look after and don’t dwell in the past. This is all I can tell. When they grow up they will do all kinds of things one of which is fight so all you could do as a mummy is it tackle these situations in away that they could Realize how gifted they are to have each other. Explain them how you felt for not having siblings. Make them closer and closer to each other to the point they stop fighting and take care of each other.
