Today, my buddy Amber is hanging out! She’s my first IRL/blogging buddy. And to think it all started when I paid a visit to her lovely blog The Yeyo Diaries. Check out her post below and then head over to the blog to get your Yeyo fix!

I’m a huge music lover. Since I was little, I’ve always loved to sing and dance and put on mini-concerts for people. Truth is, I still do that! There’s nothing better than rolling down the windows to my little four door sedan, cranking up my tune of choice, and belting it at the top of my lungs! You’re welcome, lady in the car next to me!

As a music fan (real music, none of this “Call Me Maybe” business), I like the notion of certain songs being a part of life’s soundtrack. Every stage in life is like an album, and then when you’re old, everything gets put together like one super-deluxe-compilation.

I’m sure you remember the song you played over and over again after your first break up.

Or the one you and girls liked to get dressed to right before you went for a night out on the town.

Or of course, the one you chose for your first dance at your wedding.

So why should motherhood be any different? Since I’ve become a mom, these are just a few of the tracks that will always have significance for me, when I reflect back on this time in my life.

“Superwoman” by Alicia Keys – I queued this song up on my iPod while I was in the hospital recovering from my c-section. It was the first time the nurses came to get me in the middle of the night to have me walk down the hallway to get things flowing in my body again. I was in a lot of pain, but I did it. And this song helped me believe I could.

“Butterfly” by Mariah Carey – This song is so special to me. Her ’97 album of the same name is a classic. When my daughter was born, it was one of the first songs I ever sang to her. It made me cry as I sang because I finally understood the kind of love Mariah speaks of when she says, “When you love someone so deep, that they become your life…”

“Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars – This song was really popular during my pregnancy. The sentiment is so beautiful! I couldn’t help but sing it to my newborn baby girl…starting early to let her know that she’s amazing, just the way she is!

What about you? Are there any songs you’d put on the soundtrack to your life as mommy thus far?

  2. There so many songs to the soundtrack of my life, but the first song that I sang to my daughter was Over the Rainbow by Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo. His voice is just wonderful that I also cried when I sang this for my daughter.

  3. I would sing “no one” by alicia keys. I like this song because you can take the words and interpret it however you want. I always start with, “people keep talking, they can say what they like, But all I know is everything’s gonna be alright” when I sing it to my kids.

  4. I have too many songs to name. It is amazing how songs can bring back so many memories!! Mary J, Biggie, 112, Maxwell, R Kelly, Brandy! I don’t know what these 2012 artist are doing. I enjoyed the post.

  5. My motherhood soundtrack would definitely have Hero by Mariah Carey on it because my kids are my heros. They help to realize that there is still hope and goodness in this world. They’re a constant motivation for me to keep pressing forward.

I would also have You’ll Be In My Heart by Phil Collins on there. That song is timeless and sums up how much I love Moo & Bud.

Last but not least The Only Exception by Paramore would be on there because my kids truly are the exception and have given unconditional love a new meaning for me.
