The other night I was a bit of a frazzled mess. I was cooking dinner for my family as usual and just felt exhausted. As I was cooking, I started thinking about how crazy our weeks are.

After working all day I rush home to get dinner started and have about 20 minutes to get something on the table. My son usually walks in missing me and wants me to hold him. He’s also usually hungry. It’s a mad dash every night to get dinner on the table. I don’t think I really breathe until it’s done and then I hold my breath again waiting to see if he’s going to eat it or reject it.

Our week is just one big busy fest and a minute to exhale would be greatly appreciated. I think it was all starting to get to me a bit. Then, out of no where my husband looked over at me and said “good job”. He had no idea what was going on in my head. He was focused on keeping our son occupied while I prepared dinner. His words could not have come at a better time though! I appreciate that he recognizes my efforts and acknowledges them. It lifted my shoulders a bit and put things in perspective. I do all that I do for my family and it’s nice to know that it doesn’t go unnoticed. It brings to mind this oldie but goodie from India Arie. Enjoy!

  1. It’s nice to be appreciated, isn’t it? I recently saw a movie trailer for a film starring Sarah Jessica Parker. It appears to be about the wonders of how women get it all done. From what I can tell, she doesn’t always get it done right, and some cheesy comedic relief becomes the focus of the film. I promptly turned to my husband and said, “I’m not going to see a movie about my life. I live it every day. Why the hell would I want to be that stressed out the only 2 hours of repose I get a week?” Oh well. What can you do?

    • HA! I saw the promo for that movie too. Even if I wanted to see it, I don’t know when the heck I’d have the time!

  2. Dinner time is the toughest time! It can be exhausting…I’m glad your husband said good job at the right time. Sometimes that is all it takes to keep going!

    • dinner time is so tough! The hustle of it all gets to me at times. Tonight, we had takeout! Mommy needed a break! 🙂

  3. Oh gosh, this is really a tough one for me, too…perspective. Sometimes I definitely get caught up in all the bounce and go and forget the why of all the things I do. Thank goodness for those little moments of clarity…and compliments from sweet hubbies!

  4. I remember these crazy busy nights when I worked full time. They are not fun at all. I’m glad your husband was able to make you feel better with his perfectly timed words.

  5. It definitely is the little things that make it all worth it. As soon as my son walks through the door, it is like we go into super speed to get everything done. He has no concept of time, wish I didn’t either. lol
It is awesome that your husband said good job, that means a lot. And hey, we take what we can get. 😉

  6. I definitely think it’s really important sometimes to forget all the craziness and just sit and be thankful. beautiful post and reminder of that!

  7. Boy being a Mommy can be one of the most rewarding and at the same time, knock-down-drag-out-tiring-thankless jobs around. Those little words of encouragement and praise from hubs and the “love yous” and hugs from kids do make it all worth it.

And boy, don’t we all just need to take a minute and remeber to breathe? Nice post lady!

  8. It’s the little things that matter, don’t they? It’s good that your hubby knows how to appreciate you for your efforts. If anything, that’s all we need to see us through.
