I try not to judge people. Really, I do. Some people make you go there though. I’m going to go so far as to say they practically beg  for your judgement! I came across some of these judgement seeking people the other night. We were flipping through the channels and came across this show on VH1 called “Dating Naked”.

It’s exactly what you think it is. People sign up to meet and date total strangers, totally nude. They are in a sort of set up like “The Bachelor” or “Big Brother” in that there are a bunch of people. The daters get to go out on one date with three different people and then decide who they have more of a connection with. They also spend time all together on this little island and do some skinny dipping in the pool. There are rooms where they can get together and have “conversations” to get to know each other better. How convenient for them that room has a bed. Even more convenient that everyone is already naked. It doesn’t take much for the “feelings” to kick in, right?  In the interviews, the “daters” were talking about how they just want to find love. I couldn’t help but give them a serious side eye.

There was one girl on the show whose name was Wee Wee. I find that to be an interesting name for a show like this. Again, side eye. This is Wee Wee on one of her dates:

These two words immediately popped into my mind…

I found myself watching this show and questioning so many things. I wondered if the show was fair to the guys? I mean, wouldn’t it be obvious if he was interested in you, even a little bit? He’s naked, things happen. Yeah. I also though about all of them skinny dipping in that pool together and wondered if the chlorine was working overtime to kill whatever was in that water? Gross. Most of all, I wanted to know what in the world would make someone sign up for a show like this?

Is it really that hard to get a date? Is meeting people fully clothed, in random places totally overrated? Has Match.com finally fizzled out? How did producers get people to think this was a good idea? What did they say? Were they all, “think Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve… ” I’m sure they convinced executives that this would be ground breaking television. I just think stoopid. Yes, s-t-o-o-p-i-d.

The thirst for 15 minutes of fame is real. I just can’t believe that anyone is that hard up for a date. Pun intended.

Have you seen this show? Have you heard of it?

  1. Totally weird – I was watching SNL reruns on VH1 the other day and this show came on after. I couldn’t peel my eyes away for a moment. Gross!

I think part of the “idea” (read: the fake altruistic reasoning they give that’s an excuse to allow this drivel on TV) is that we can get the “what do you look like naked”/sexual junk out of the way first, get over it, and move onto a real connection. But I feel like in reality it would just be extremely distracting. Plus, what kind of person agrees to “meet their true love” naked on television?

  2. Wow, I have never heard of this show before, and I’m not sure that was a bad thing! Hah. I’ve always been really skeptical of TV dating shows, but this one goes above and beyond the usual stupidity.

  3. I’ve heard of this and would probably watch it for the laughs…because really, the whole idea is absurd. Dating Naked?!? Physical attraction will be the only thing at play here.

I have to admit, I am a huge fan of The Bachelor(ette). I know that a lot of people are against it and that’s totally cool, but for me at least, I am crazy about it.

  4. Looking for love? LOL That’s hilarious. Yes, when I’m looking for my soulmate I prefer for them to be completely naked and filmed for millions of viewers. Isn’t romance beautiful?

  5. Sometimes I think, my grandpa would be so disgusted if he saw what was on television today! We almost never turn the tv on anymore!

  6. I’ve never seen it or heard of it. I wonder, how the heck this was made into a show though! Seems a bit tacky to me and a bit of a joke! Wont lie – I would probably watch to see what its about tho haha.

  7. I don’t watch reality shows, so I’ve never heard of it before. I’m not really interested in watching it.
