You know the people who are suspicious about everything? They have a conspiracy theory about every single thing. They seem to know the back story, the story that no one is telling you, the story the media is hiding – they know. They question everything and believe nothing? Whether it’s government, the food or life in general, they have a theory about it.

I should tell you, I’m becoming one of those people.  At least  a little. There are too many stories of the things being done to our food and products in general to make me one of “those” people. I don’t trust the food in most places and I’m giving a serious side eye to beauty products too. I have been buying more and more organic everything when it comes to feeding my family. While I have been changing the things I put in my body, I have also been changing the things I put on my body. One thing that has a pretty strong presence in my house now is coconut oil. I use it to cook with and we use it on our hair and skin. As I have been browsing the web and looking for more natural solutions to things, I have found many more uses for coconut oil. This stuff is versatile!

You can use it on your underarms instead of deodorant. They have been all kinds of reports that the aluminum in traditional deodorants are bad for you. This is a good, natural alternative. I’ll try it and let you know.

Got dandruff? Put a couple of tablespoonfuls in your hair and wait about 20 minutes and rinse. It’s been said that it will help relieve your itches and flakes.

We use it to moisturize our skin. It’ works really well and you don’t have to use a lot to get the job done.

You can also use it on your lips as a lip balm. Obviously, right? Your lips are skin too!

I’ve also read that it’s a good on toast as a substitute for butter.

So there you have it. My top five ways for using coconut oil.

Do you use coconut oil? Are you becoming a health nut too? Had you heard of any of these uses for coconut oil?

  1. Cam, I am so with you. I don’t trust any food. I think our FDA is ridiculous compared to other, healthier countries.
I only buy meat from our local co-op these days! And I love coconut oil.

  2. We do use coconut oil but mostly for our skin and hair. I tend not to use it on the baby’s hair in the winter because it solidifies and leaves a white film on her hair. Other than that I cook with it at times. I am a coconut oil fan. I didn’t know you could use it as deodorant.

  3. Neat ways to use Coconut. I can’t afford to do natural when it comes to food it’s not in my budget down here it cost so much to eat even half healthy. Now I don’t do the fast food and try to make my own foods from scratch but that’s about it. I am funny about my meat and shop at the farmers market as often as I can.

  4. I’ve only used coconut oil on my hair and I like it. I’ve gotten more particular about foods, especially where I buy my meat over the years. I’ve also started getting away from canned foods and I’ve moved to more frozen or fresh veggies.
I’ve tried aluminum free deodorants and I haven’t had much success especially in the summer. Let us know how the oil works.
Also, I been reading about using essential oils as a facial cleanser and I’m thinking of giving that a try.

  5. I cook with coconut oil too, and use it in my hair as a pre-poo and on my skin. It’s very good for removing eye makeup as well. I’m team natural when it comes to food, skin, hair, everything, so we’re on the same page, Cam. The less processed stuff in our systems, the better.

  6. I agree that our food isn’t as healthy as it could. We have way too many chemicals. Thank goodness for farmer’s markets and community gardens. I’ve never cooked with coconut oil, just used it for hair and body moisturizing.
