There are a few things that have been bugging me lately when it comes to the bump. It all starts with the questions and just grows from there. Allow me to get some things off my chest, k?

At a party,  just over a week ago. Rocking the bump!

Are you having twins? – NO! Just because you think I look like Large Marge, feel free to NOT ask this question. If I was having twins, I’d probably offer up that info without you asking. Since I’m not – you’ve just contributed to stomping on the feelings of a pregnant woman. Yes, this child in my womb is probably scarred from the emotional distress you’ve just put me through. You feel real good about yourself, no?

Just walking up to me and rubbing my belly – Totally inappropriate. If I don’t know you, trust me, it’s not cool. I don’t know why we have this need to touch each other’s belly. I’ve been guilty of this too. I tend to ask first though. If I wasn’t pregnant, you wouldn’t just feel the need to reach out and touch my belly. Well, it’s still my belly. It just houses a small human at the moment.

You’re so small – When I tell you how many months I am, don’t question me and ask me “if I’m sure”. My tummy may seem small to you but questioning my math is rude and now I think you’re trying to scare me. As if I now need to freak out because I’m too small.

Were you trying? – This is a tricky question. I got that a lot and I’m sure it’s all well-intentioned but what if I wasn’t trying? Does it make this blessing of a baby any less spectacular?

It’s just your hormones – Just because I snapped at you (and wrote this post) doesn’t mean I’m hormonal! Even if I am, I don’t wanna hear about it. It might just be that you’re getting on my nerves. Hadn’t considered that, huh?

Thanks for listening (reading). *takes a bow and steps off soap box*

18 Comments on Five Things You Should Stop Saying (and Doing) To Me

  1. I have never had anyone walk up and touch my stomach I have that look I wish they would. My last pregnancy I did not show at all it just look like I was fat….(it was the krispy kreme doughnuts)

  2. AMEN!!
When I was pregnant a total stranger walked up to me in a store, rubbed my belly and declared she was doing it b/c she needed luck to win the lottery!! True story, I couldn’t make it up! I was flabbergasted and all kinds of pissed!
I also got the “you must be due any day now?” when I was no where near my due date.
I totally understand and agree with this post!! AMEN again!
You look wonderful in the pic by the way:)

  3. When people touched my stomach without asking I would slap their hand. It’s just not a cool thing to do. And it drives me nuts when people respond “oh, you’re so big” or “oh, you’re so small” when you reveal your due date.

  4. SMH. People are so inconsiderate. Why would you touch a woman’s belly without permision? I have never understood that one at ALL. I was like Kita. I gave everyone the look that said, “I dare you.”

  5. A to the MEN! I hate the silly things people say to pregnant women. I also don’t like it when people wanted to come up and rub my belly. Lucky for me, only my friends wanted to touch because I was the first in our group.

However, if you were a stranger, I don’t want you on my belly.

  6. I love that people think they can just rub your tummy no big deal. That drove me crazy when I was pregnant. I worked at a Starbucks and random people would just be like oh hey, now I’m touching you. Creepy weirdos. I don’t know why people think that being pregnant removes all of your personal boundaries.

  7. I got the “you look like you’re about to pop” often. It was annoying as Hell. No one ever touched my tummy without asking first. Lucky them lol

  8. Lol…these are great because all of them I have heard before. The hands on the belly thing bothers me to the tenth degree:-)

  9. Oh man, I feel your pain! The twins comment would get me real angry because, not only is the comenter being stupid (if they already know its one) they are being mean.

I got the were you trying biz too, that is clearly none of your business, trying or not, my baby isn’t a mistake!

LOL I’m getting all angry flashing back to 4 months ago.
