Fatherhood is pretending the present you love most is soap-on-a-rope. ~Bill Cosby

Father’s Day doesn’t seem to be as big a deal as Mother’s Day. It kind of gets the short end of the stick. There’s no room at restaurants, the florists are working over time and cards are hard to come by even a week out from the actual day. Father’s don’t get it like that it seems. Well, this weekend was all about my Mr. We woke up on Saturday with reservations for brunch. The kids and I get some of that precious weekend time in with my husband. He works such long days that we suck up all we get on the weekend. This past weekend was no different in that way.

father's day 2014 018On Sunday,we made our way to church and headed out to meet my husbands god parents for food. My little girl missed her nap in all of this and was exhausted by the time we got to the restaurant. Since the restaurant had a 90 minute wait, I decided to sit in the car with her and let her get some sleep. She slept for a while and I was left to entertain myself in the car. Photo shoot, anyone? WAY too much time on my hands…

Once she woke up, our table still wasn’t ready. Luckily, the restaurant was beachfront. So, it was off to the beach to play while we waited for our table. We got no argument from the kids. They are some true beach babies!

We had a great time. My honey, knows how much we love and appreciate him. The kids kept randomly shouting “Happy Father’s Day!” all day long. My daughter’s only request as we left the restaurant, “I want play at beach!” Yep, somehow this couple from the Midwest are raising some real California kids!

How was your weekend?

  1. Mother’s day almost always falls on my husbands birthday (or at least the same weekend of) so it’s more about him which is totally fine. We try to show appreciation for each other all year round – I did make his favorite dinner though (Stroganoff!)

    Beachfront restaurant though, how nice!!

  2. Kids DO love the beach! Mine could stay there all day with zero complaint, always.

I’m glad you got to spend time w/your husband for Father’s Day. I bet he was glad too. 🙂

  3. Thank you for treating your man with such appreciation!!! I was teasing my wife yesterday and told her I feel sometimes that Father’s Day is nothing more than a way for some people to deal with guilt over treating Mom so great… they needed an equalizer, lol… Of course I was teasing.

  4. How lucky are you that you guys live so close to the beach! I would live there! Glad you guys got time in with the Mr, they really should be spoiled on their day.

  5. See I am totally seriously moving to California…90 min wait – no worries just go to the beach! That would never happen in ATL! And you’re right fathers day does get the short end of the stick…aww

  6. What a great place to go eat. I have never seen the ocean and would just love to wait for a table with the kiddos playing on the beach. Your hubbie looks like he had a great day.

  8. I love that quote by Bill Cosby. He has had some good ones throughout the years. It looks like your family had a lovely Father’s Day. I’m glad the occasion got the attention it so well deserves.

  9. Nope, Father’s Day gets no love! We went out to eat on Saturday and got a table with hardly any wait. If that had been the Saturday before mother’s day…..
