Would you buy your daughter a breastfeeding doll? Yes? No? Maybe? Well, in case you’re interested, there’s a new doll on the market causing DRAMA. Some view the doll as completely inappropriate. While others seem to think it’s no different than buying your daughter a doll that sucks a bottle. I see their point… a little. It’s different because we’re talking breasts here. That makes it different, right or wrong, it just does. Here’s how the doll works. In order for the doll to “feed” your daughter has to wear this special top that looks kind of like a sports bra. There are flowers where the nipples would be. The doll latches on and sucks. I am a huge proponent of breastfeeding. I nursed my baby for nearly 11 months. I just don’t know if I would buy this for a little girl. Something about it seems extra to me. Maybe a little too mature. I could be totally overreacting. I get that. Maybe if this was for older kids it would make more sense to me. The other reason I wouldn’t buy it? It costs a whopping $89 dollars! What do you think? Is it totally cool or completely inappropriate? Is this something you’d buy a little girl?

  1. As a Child and Family Therapist and child advocate, I feel that this is totally inappropriate! Not good for any age. We make toys too real for these kids. Whatever happened to using an imagination! Children are no longer required to think, act, or behave like children. I also wonder if it might be promoting motherhood to the extent that little girls will start to want to be mothers, too soon. Anything to make money, with no thought about morals and who it could potentially harm! That’s all we need is to have a child portraying an adult to the extent that some sick person takes advantage of their “womanly/motherly” ways or appearance. The bra with the pasties takes it over and beyond inappropriate!!!

  2. Wow this is so weird. I think breastfeeding is cool but this just makes me feel creepy. I like Monica’s comment as I hadn’t thought of it that way with the imagination thing. I can’t believe toy company execs greenlighted this – the same people who thought up Bratz and all that. So weird.

  3. Um wow. That’s a little weird. And by a little…I mean a lot. There’s no reason for little girls to be practicing breastfeeding at such a young age…especially not for 90 bucks.

  4. i had to LOL:) people actually BUY a doll for breastfeeding? funny:) when i was a little girl (yes, it was the dark ages! late 1940’s) my sister and i would sit and nurse our dolls while my mom nursed our baby brother (he was 2/3 yrs. younger than we were) why would there be a problem with that? so funny. it was just like playing house! we were imitating our mom:)

  5. I got into a Twitter argument over this. I think this should not be a toy but more like a tool used in sex education or breastfeeding classes. This is not appropriate for children point blank period!
