After months of speculation and rumors, on Saturday, the Carters welcomed their first child into the world. Beyonce and Jay-Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter was born on Saturday night. She entered this world in true celebrity style, too. Stop me if this sounds anything like your birth story.

It’s been reported that Beyonce and Jay-Z rented out an entire floor of an upper East side New York hospital. It only cost them a cool 1.3 million dollars. It didn’t come without some drama. Apparently, she checked in under an alias. You did too, right? In an effort to keep information and images from leaking to the public, employees of the hospital placed tape over security cameras and workers were forced to turn in their cell phones when they checked in for their shifts. The New York Daily News is reporting that the couple, along with their family and friends celebrated with bottles of red wine and take out. Sounds just like the party we had while I was in recovery!

Clearly, I’m joking. I love some Beyonce and I wish them well. Reading the details of the birth of their daughter got me thinking about how glad I am to not be a celebrity. To feel like you have to go to such extremes is crazy. I guess it was the only way they thought they could have some peace in the whole situation. You just know if they hadn’t done it this way people would have snapped all kinds of crazy pics of them and the baby and sold them to the highest bidder. Giving birth is such an intimate time and deserves privacy but when you’re a public figure, people don’t care about your privacy. They just want to know… everything! I remember all that was going on when I delivered my son, I can’t imagine side-eyeing every person that entered the room thinking they might be the one to snap a shot of me and my baby to get paid.

At least I don’t have to hear people keep going on about her not being pregnant. Although when it was reported that she was in labor somebody commented “you mean her surrogate is in labor”. I guess the speculation will never stop. Congrats Bey and Jay. Now comes the drama with the paps trying to get the first shot of baby Blue. Sigh.

Update: Jay-Z just dropped his first song dedicated to his daughter… try not to cry!

    • I am so happy for them!! You know people are going to always have something to say, that is what they (we) do.
It is not the name I would have chosen, but honestly with the empire she has been born into will it even really matter? She is destined for great things.
As far as if she was ever really pregnant, I don’t care about that. Birthing a baby doesn’t make you a mother. The definition is far greater.

  1. Finally the hoopla of the Jayonce baby is over. Oh wait, it is just beginning! I think she should have had the baby at home instead of going through all that trouble at the hospital. Probably would have been cheaper too! LOL.

  2. Seriously, I had to log off from facebook yesterday because I’d had all I could take with all the dang conspiracy theorists!! Geez! Congrats to Bey and Jay. I wish them well and don’t envy the media madness that they have to deal with AT ALL!

  3. I have heard rumors (G. Paltrow) that the name was Ivy Blue, as well. But I don’t know, I think you are a more reliable source than skinny thing Paltrow. I’m being mean aren’t I? That baby has got to be cute though!

  4. Yep. The drama will never end with them. Can’t people just leave her uterus alone and let The Carters be great! Sigh. For that, I too am happy that I am not a celebrity. It’s so sad to feel like you have to go to THAT extreme just to give birth. Give the lady a break! Her baby is just like yours and mine! I feel so sorry that they had to go to that extent (of course, I’m a Bey and Jay fan! LOL). Anyhow… watch. In five years, kindergarten classes are going to be filled with the names “Blue Ivy” or some variation of it.

PS: Blue Ivy is going to be my idol. (Just joking…)

  5. Oh the rumors…we could speculate for days! He sounds like he is soo in love with her…I can’t wait for my hubby to feel that way about our child someday! I have wanted a child for Jay Z for so long…never understood why he never had children before (that weren’t rumored)! Congrats to them!

  6. I hate people sometimes. It’s on my last nerve that people are so into her business about HER baby! I don’t care how she came to be, her parents love her.

  7. I hate that they had to spend that kind of money, but the birth of a child is the one time when you REALLY don’t want paparazzi around. Such a private moment for the mom and dad. Blessings to them on their new little one.
