Every since I saw one of my bloggy peeps on Iyanla’s show on OWN I have pretty much been sucked in. On the show, Iyanla Vanzant attempts to fix the issues plaguing the lives of various people. She runs the gamut from celebrities to regular families and each time it’s powerful, must-see-TV.

Not too long ago I caught an episode that I felt like I HAD to watch. It was about bloggers! There were six women who had come together to create an online community called Six Brown Chicks. Their blog started with the mission of uniting women but as it gained success the group began to break down – BAD! There was name calling, animosity and just flat out anger.

As I watched it, I kept thinking what’s the deal with women? Why are there so many instances where we don’t get along? Whether it’s the latest popular girl group or bloggers, we hear about the drama. Is it really that hard? At the end of the day the issues with these ladies were all based in non-communication. Once they started to talk and actually hear each other, walls began to tumble and it was as if they FINALLY saw each other.

As I watched it, these ladies had me crying. It was sad to see these grown women behaving badly on display. What was even sadder was when they finally began to communicate they realized how much time had been wasted over nothing. I kept thinking does it have to be this way? Do we really just tear each other apart? Can women really work together? Of course we can, right?

  1. this is just one of the many reasons why i wish i had OWN. totally missed this…and can’t believe i didn’t see anything in my twitter timeline about it. i think we can work together, but it takes a group of like-minded people with the same intentions. that can be hard to find sometimes. i’ve been reluctant to reach out to some “more popular” bloggers, as to avoid this type of drama. not sure if this kind of behavior and attitudes are more of a stereotype or a reality. i just know i want no parts of it.

  2. I tweeted about it when it was on the first time. I look at my hubs and his friends and how they interact they can be mad one day and the next day it’s like nothing has happened whereas women hold grudges for days

  3. Wow! I wish I would have seen this episode. It is really too bad. I have been to many blogging conferences and there always seems to be a warning about doing project with other bloggers because of this same issue. It really is too sad because we are all reaching for the same goal and helping each other, it is too bad that there has to be so much warning about working together.

    Great post!

  4. I missed this one! Woman CAN get along. But too many of us are busy trying to act how the media says we should act. SMH

  5. Great topic. Now I definitely want to see this episode. Can women get along? Yes, they can, but communication is the key. In many instances, such as this one jealousy, envy, mis-understandings and more begin to happen, but no one ever talks about it. It’s not easy but I really feel it’s possible for us to get along, work in business together and celebrate the success of others.

  6. We can definitely work together. I personaly like to see other people’s achievement because they inspire to do good and better. If i waste that positive energy on being jealous i won’t get far in life.

  7. I saw this episode and it was great! I never quite understood why women start falling out after they have reached a certain level of success. Fix My Life is a great show and I learn something from the episodes. I wish she would have interviewed Rihanna instead of Oprah. That would have been great to see!
